In a moment of weakness, we might feel like the only choice is to just give in. If you feel like you're going to be tempted, don't go near the sin. Don't think, "How close can I get to the fire without being burned?" Instead, run far away from it. We should desire to please God, and not ourselves.
There are many Christians that become outcasts because of their love for Christ. They are not accepted, they're being rejected, and labeled as Jesus freaks. Well, in our text today, we notice that it doesn't matter what they say. It doesn't matter what they do. As humans, it's normal to want to fit in. But, the path of the wicked leads to destruction. We must also remember not to compromise, because the road to Heaven won't get wider. Giving in to sin should not be an option. We need to know who we are in Christ.
In a moment of weakness, we might feel like the only choice is to just give in. If you feel like you're going to be tempted, don't go near the sin. Don't think, "How close can I get to the fire without being burned?" Instead, run far away from it. We should desire to please God, and not ourselves. "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?” This phrase is familiar in the classic princess story of Snow White. But don't we all each look at ourselves in the mirror and ask that question? I mean, in today’s society, the pressure on us to be beautiful is huge. We want affection and we want people to accept us. However, we don't have a magic mirror that tells us how pretty we are. Ah, it's that time of the year again. Notebooks are on sale. Class schedules are being sent home. New outfits are being bought. Yes, it's time to go back to school. Honestly, I'm not a fan of school, because of all the work. I'm not a fan of work, because of all the stress I tend to get. But, I do try my hardest and aim high. With God's grace, this will be another successful school year. So let's run through the school supplies checklist, shall we? Binders/Folders: Did you get something to keep all your papers organized? If you haven't, get one. This way, you can keep track of your homework. No zero’s for homework grades this year. Pencils/Pens: You can't possibly go into class without these. Do you have a constant supply of them? Erasers: Mistakes are bound to happen. That's why we need a handy eraser to keep us in check. And most importantly...God. Do you have God? "Be yourself." You've probably heard that a lot. But, what if you don't know how to be yourself? What if you don't even know who you are? Being yourself is something that can or should come naturally. However, it's more difficult than it sounds. Everyone raves about the virtue of 'being yourself', but what does that even mean? Why is such a natural state so hard to achieve? |
